What Is Your Mountain Made Of? — Who Sustains You?
Every mountain is built one stone at a time. What are you building—and is it blocking what God wants to pour into your life?
The Bible says that if we have faith, we can speak to the mountain and tell it to move—to be cast into the sea.
Matthew 17:20; Mark 11:23
But what is your mountain made of?
There are two kinds of mountains.
1. The Mountain That Gives Life
There is a mountain that is the source of all good things.
From that mountain comes a river. And wherever the river flows, everything becomes green. There is healing. There is deliverance. There is blessing. There is confrontation. There is judgment. There is counsel. There is correction.
This mountain is just, filled with love, patience, and power.
The Bible says:
“There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God.”
Ezekiel 47:1–12; Revelation 22:1–2
This is the mountain of God. From Him flows everything that gives life, sustains life, corrects us, heals us, and restores us.
2. The Mountain That Blocks
But there is another mountain. A mountain that blocks the rain.
Have you ever wondered why some regions remain dry while others receive abundant rain? The Himalayas, for example, affect the movement of clouds and rainfall across the region.
The Devil can become like another mountain—a mountain that blocks what comes from God: the rain, the deliverance, the wisdom, and the salvation.
But this mountain does not appear suddenly.
It is built block by block.
Our sin, our disobedience, our fortification, our sexual immorality, our anger, our rage, our past hurts, our habits, our grudges.
Just as a natural mountain is filled with different kinds of fauna and flora, this mountain becomes filled with things that do not belong to God.
And the Devil slowly builds it. At first, you may not even notice its effect.
But eventually, the mountain reaches a certain altitude—and it begins to block what was coming toward you.
Slowly, it stops the wind—the Holy Spirit—from flowing into your territory.
When the wind stops, the rain stops. - When the rain stops, the dew stops. - When the plants are no longer watered, life begins to disappear.
Slowly, your life becomes a desert.
And by the time you realize what has happened, the mountain is no longer easy to remove.
When it is only a small heap of mud, it is easy to clear.
But when it becomes a mountain, no matter how much earth-moving equipment you have, it is not enough.
It can take years to clear manually.
And sometimes, your life ends before you can clear the mountain yourself.
What Do We Learn?
There are two things we need to understand.
First: Do not build your mountain with the Devil.
Leave your habits - Leave your wrong thoughts. - Leave your sin. - Leave your hurt. -Leave your grudge.
Turn to God.
Do not allow these things to become building blocks of a mountain that eventually blocks what God wants to pour into your life.
Second: Build your house on the mountain of God.
Go to the mountain from which the river never ends.
The mountain that flourishes you. -The mountain that sustains you. - The mountain that builds you. - The mountain that heals you. -The mountain that confronts you.
The mountain where the wind continues to flow and the river never stops.
But What About the Mountain Already in Your Life?
You may ask:
“How do I clear the mountain that I have already built?”
The Bible says that even if your faith is as small as a mustard seed, you can speak to the mountain.
Jesus said:
“If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed… ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove.”
So leave your mountain.
With faith. With Jesus by your side.
Believe.
And command your mountain to move into the sea.
That self-inflicted mountain—the mountain that belongs to the enemy—will fall into the sea.
And what is this sea?
It is made by the river that comes from the throne of God.
The river makes the sea.
And this sea burns the mountains—the mountain of sin, the mountain of bondage, the mountain that stood between you and what God wanted to pour into your life.
The Bible says:
“He maketh wars to cease unto the end of the earth; he breaketh the bow, and cutteth the spear in sunder.”
Psalm 46:9
The sea calms the war.
It breaks the bow.
It burns the chariot.
It brings the mountain down.
So, submit yourself to God.
Leave the mountain you have built with the enemy.
And go to the mountain from where your help comes from.
“I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.”
